Color Dosing for Injection Molding
Injection molding is what MegaColor was built around, and it is where most of our installed base runs. The unit sits on the machine throat and doses color powder or masterbatch into the resin as the machine draws material — which is what lets the blending station go away rather than be made faster.
Where the unit goes
- Mounts directly on the injection molding machine throat, in place of the original material hopper — the machine itself is not modified
- Throat interface 115 × 115 mm or 155 × 155 mm, which covers the common sizes across major machine brands
- Power AC 220V single phase, 50 Hz, 180–240 W depending on model
- Compressed air 0.5–0.6 MPa, dry and oil-free — existing shop air is normally enough
- Footprint about 0.6 m², so it does not take floor space beside the machine
What it changes on the floor
- Dosing happens per shot at the throat, so what comes out first and what comes out last of a batch are the same color — a floor mixer cannot hold that
- Single-dose dosing consistency CV < 0.6%, against 3%–5% for typical volumetric dosers
- Finished-part weight accuracy ±1% and color deviation ΔE < 0.2
- Fully enclosed dosing chamber, so pigment does not drift to the next machine and contaminate a light-colored run
- Only what the shot calls for is dosed, so a run that finishes early leaves no pre-blended material to scrap
Powder or masterbatch — the same machine does both
Swapping one component moves the unit between color powder and masterbatch. You are not committing to one material route at purchase.
Color powder
- Loading range 0.1%–5%
- Mixed same day from pigment you already hold, instead of waiting on a masterbatch order
- Required outright by some automotive, infant-toy and medical-device customers
- Fine-gear and coarse-gear metering sets are not interchangeable — the set is matched to your loading ratio at commissioning
Masterbatch
- Loading range 1%–10%
- Suits plants already standardised on masterbatch who want the blending step removed
- Recipes are stored on the unit and recalled, rather than worked from a paper sheet
- Changeover on the 5th Generation is a 1-minute hopper swap
At very low loading we do not quote a consistency figure. The measured report covers the standard gear settings. If you dose near 0.1%, send the resin and the pigment you actually run — we test on your material and give you the numbers from that run. There is no charge for this step.
Which model for which line
Resin temperature and throughput per machine are what decide the model — not the industry you are in.
| Your line | Model | Throughput |
|---|---|---|
| PP / PE / PS / TPE, one powder | ICOLOR5 Standard | 50–70 kg/h |
| ABS / PC / PET / PVC and other engineering resins | Same model, high-temperature configuration — see model codes | 50–70 kg/h |
| Two powders dosed together | ICOLOR5 Dual-Powder | 50–70 kg/h |
| Several raw materials, e.g. resin plus regrind or filler | ICOLOR5 Dual-Material | 50–70 kg/h |
| More than 70 kg/h per machine | Large-Capacity | Higher throughput |
Already running centralised feeding?
MegaColor units install as dosing points downstream of a centralised feeding system, one at each injection molding machine. Color is then set per machine rather than per silo, so a machine can change color without anything upstream being touched. This is one of the stronger cases for the design, not a workaround — plants with central conveying are a normal installation for us.
Our own parent company is one of them. Zhejiang Sunup runs 70 injection molding machines and 20 blow molding machines, all of them fed by MegaColor dosing units. Visitors to Huangyan can walk that floor and measure the parts themselves.
Get the data on your own material
Send us the resin and the pigment you run. We test on your material and settle the model once there is data.
